How to test your structured data is valid

What does the structured data testing tool actually test?
To help you understand whether your structured data is valid we perform a number of checks. First, we check each property against the given Schema Type you provide. If you are using properties that are not part of the original schema spec - or if you have introduced any typos to their names - we will highlight that property as an error.
Next, we check your schema against the standards set in their guidelines for Rich Snippets. in those help documents Google list a number of fields they consider either 'required' or 'recommended' to help you achieve a rich media snippet for your listing.
If your schema is using one of the key properties they highlight for rich snippets - for example an Article, Book, Review or Rating, Product, Local Business, Video, Recipe or Event - then we will flag any missing properties that are required for a rich snippet. We also suggest which properties Google recommends you add to your schema for more completeness.
